Do teachers indoctrinate young children with a false presumption that being well-read makes you intelligent?

Why don't teachers teach very young children the distinction between two words often used in the common vernacular as equivalents? Because there's no reason to. Heck, most people can't tell you the difference between astronomy and astrology, and that's a much bigger problem than a few kids considering themselves very intelligent despite knowing nothing. That's just part of being a teenager. You'll grow out of it.
